Blue #1: Tom Dixon Design Competition

"It was at the latest Maison & Objet exhibition in Paris that was announced the winner of Disrupt Dixon’s Design, the first open design competition based on a new modular concept using 3D printing processes. Launched in April by Tom Dixon and Dassault Systèmes on the occasion of the Most event, Disrupt Dixon’s Design invited designers to submit original creations by reusing and re-configuring the original 3D models provided through the SwYm community platform of Dassault Systèmes."
The main essential task of the "Blue#1" collection was to illustrate that 3D printing can be used in a very advanced but also fancy projects, and even more - in such utilitarian objects as lighting fixtures. Even though this technology have been widely promoted and constantly represented in the design-related exhibitions, manufacturers are still looking for the opportunity to incorporate 3Dprinted items into 'real life' not as sculptural elements, but also as functional objects.

"Blue#1" is a modern collection of lighting fixtures that will perfectly fit in the contemporary interior. The coloured bright joints reveal the constructive scheme of the objects making it honest and memorable at the same time.
It is always worth mentioning that 3D printing technologies bring new sustainable 'manufacturing-on-demand' ideology to the table, therefore it is a matter of time when household products designed for 3d Printing at home would be a routine in our society.
As a part of the design competition, the prototype of the winning concept was created, while the excellent printing quality of the joints prove that in the future 3D printed products would be a part of our everydau routine.
