Typographic Grid Structure

In this assignment the typographic grid was used to create layouts for an exhibit at The Sheldon Art Museum. There were 5 different prompts within the assignment. First layout was only pt 9 size font on the x-axis, next size could be messed with and y-axis. Then the weight of the font could be used and the z-axis, next it was different fonts. Finally pictures were added.
In this exercise I mainly messed with just the basic idea of using a grid. For my final layouts a lot of them used a grid with many columns around 5-10. I discovered that it is a lot easier to make a more interesting composition with more columns. Once I could I messed with the different axis’. It was fun to mess with the z-axis. Playing around with different slants and angles of the type. In my 25 iterations I also messed with the margin sizes to add more or less room for the type.
The main typefaces I used are Avante Garde Gothic when starting. Then I added either Didot or Gill Sans. Avante Garde Gothic font family was designed by Tom Carnase, Erich Gschwind, Christian Mengelt, Edward Benguiat, André Gürtler, Herb Lubalin. It was designed in 1970 and created for a magazine. Didot was created by Firmin Didot in 1784 for printing purposes. Gill Sans was created by Eric Gill in 1928. It was created to make a perfect and legible.
