Made for a university workshop, How we cooked an animated documentary is a meta-documentary that shows how to create an animated documentary.
The project focuses on the steps followed to realize the final video, underlining each passage that plays an important role in the process.
The idea is to explain the creation of a documentary with the rhetorical figure of metaphor, comparing making a documentary to baking a cake: both of them need lots of ingredients and steps to follow.
In order to make the documentary more similar to the real experience there are people who talk and hands at work: it shows the train of thoughts the video is made on through dialogues and gestures .
The documentary is realized by using the stop motion techniques: using photos represent the best way to show a personal involvement and a point of view.
Typography is completely hand-made: every word is written in three different versions to simulate the “boiling” effect once animated
Soundtrack is composed by two levels: there are the typical cooking sounds and an original composition realized by a member of the team.
