“Semiotics of the Ladies Room”

"Semiotics Of The Play Room'' is a sculpture made out of bio-based materials that exist at the frontier of culinary and cosmetic uses like Corn Starch, Gelatine, Alginate, Eggshells, coffee grinds, pine needles, and other bio-based materials. It's an exploration of consumer activism, feminine tropes, and bio art. It is also a homage to feminist artist Marta Rosler, whose video art "Semiotics of the Kitchen '' is of great influence on film and gender studies. With an environmental twist, I try to make a reflection on petrochemicals and how this mass-produced material is subtracted to make plastique toys for children, which are usually gendered artifacts that pollute the environment and are meant to be used for play or to perform gender roles.
