UX Design Project : Expedia Travel Hunt Feature

Prototype Link :
To maintain internal consistency, it was crucial to meticulously study Expedia’s current design system and adapt the same in building the U.I elements for ‘Travel Hunt’ feature flow.

How it started with lot of ambiguity
To begin with we had a hypothesis and noted all the possible assumptions, ideas, solutions, constraints and discussed on it.

Then we brainstormed and plotted a high-level macro flow of the feature

This is how the initial macro flow looked

Along with macro flow we simultaneously studied Exdepia App & Website to understand the product & it’s services better.

We also observed other products, studied the gamification features, gathered inspiration, noted & discussed the insights we received while conducting competitor analysis throughout the entire design process.

In order to design the seamless experience, it was crucial to understand user & their needs. This led us to dive deep into discussing user types based on the demographics, age, profession, travel behaviours, preferences etc.

To empathise with users, we mapped user’s emotions, actions, what they would do-feel-think-say, challenges/pain-points they might face & opportunities along each stage of the feature flow.

Further, ‘How might we’ statements helped us to understand the user journey better, frame the problems and set the foot to generate ideas & solutions

We also constructed & prioritised user stories for happy, edge & error cases.

HMW & user stories helped us brainstorm & plot the ideas & possible solutions

The most awaited step and we dived deep into visualising the ideas and giving it shape & form.

From paper wireframes we designed lo-fi wireframes & quickly prototyped it as a first draft ready to be tested.

After conducting usability testing, we got feedback on the designs.

The overall findings can be summarized as follows :
- Clear instructions and labeling are crucial for the success of the gamified challenges
- Seamless integration of the challenge feature with the core functionality of the travel app is essential for a positive user experience
- The navigation flow can be optimized to ensure a better recognition from users

Since the foundation of the feature i.e the flow was broken.
We decided to go back, iterate & fix the flow.

This is how the final flow looked like
Based on the UT feedback, we iterated on the designs
This is how the final iterated hi-fi screens looked like
