Sotheby’s x Bolin Chen
Contemporary Curated
Sotheby’s Hong Kong partners with celebrated actor and tastemaker Bolin Chen, who lends his curatorial eye to Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated auction in July 2023. In order to announce this exciting news to public, Sotheby’s needs a film for this collaboration, which will feature a selection of trailblazing artists and established names, including Mark Grotjahn, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Ding Yi and Yoshitomo Nara, from Bolin’s perspective.
Our Solution
The filming location for this project was chosen to be in Bolin Chen’s gallery in Taipei, while the lots for the auction are all in Hong Kong. Therefore, the challenge was to create a spatial connection and interaction between Bolin Chen and the lots. After researching the Bolin Chen’s gallery, we noticed that the gallery had large white walls which is perfect for projection. As a solution, we decided to project the lots’s photos onto the wall of the gallery, allowing Bolin Chen be with the lots in a same space. Also, in this film, we have utilized various movie lens design to complement Bolin Chen’s artistic vision.
