Nursing Crisis Advocacy Campaign

Project Overview:
The project involved creating graphics for the Canadian Nurses Association's Fall advocacy campaign, which aimed to address Canada's healthcare crisis. The campaign focused on raising awareness about issues affecting nurses and the public, such as safe patient care, access to care, nurse well-being, and health human resources.

Challenges:
The main challenge was to design a graphic that effectively conveyed the message of nursing burnout and healthcare crisis on an emotive level. Additionally, there was a need to create a compelling visual that would lead viewers to take action by visiting a campaign page and filling out a pre-written form to urge elected officials to address the crisis.

My Role:
I was responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing the graphic for the advocacy campaign. This involved selecting and editing multiple images to create a powerful visual representation of nursing burnout and crisis, and one which had the best potential to attract audiences on social media.

Creative Process:
I began by brainstorming concepts that would effectively communicate the urgency of the healthcare crisis and the impact on nurses. After selecting suitable images, I experimented with multiple exposure techniques to create a visually striking composition. Iterative feedback and adjustments were made to ensure the graphic maintained its impact and avoided clichés. The final design was integrated into the campaign page, along with the pre-written form for contacting elected officials.

Strategies Used:
The graphic utilized multiple exposure techniques to convey the complexity and intensity of nursing burnout and crisis. Design choices were made to evoke empathy and urgency, encouraging viewers to take action.

Measurable Results:
The campaign successfully raised awareness about Canada's healthcare crisis and generated significant engagement from the public. Hundreds of individuals visited the campaign page and filled out the pre-written form to urge elected officials to take action. This resulted in increased advocacy efforts and pressure on government officials to address nursing shortages and improve the healthcare system.
