Midnight Girl: Typeface

Midnight Girl Typeface
This typeface was created for the game Midnight Girl, and is inspired by the typography used in early Sixties movies, especially crime dramas and movies by Jean-Luc Godard.

Rookie Mistakes
The typeface is deliberately full of 'rookie mistakes' that only an untrained typography designer would make, such as slightly broken curves and missing overshoots. These mistakes are included to give the illusion that the typeface is made by a Sixties sign painter, rather than a 21st Century type designer. The inaccuracies give a lot of life to the typeface, but risk being mistaken as merely byproducts of amateur work.
Rounded Edges
If you watch a title sequence from the opening of a Sixties movie, you might notice that the typography has slightly rounded edges. This effect is caused by the bad quality of the film and the way typography was projected onto the screen back then. The Midnight Girl typeface is designed with similar rounded edges to mimic that effect.
Midnight Girl is available on PC and Mac. You can buy it on Steam, or try the free demo.
