Marne la Vallee 'Envelope Workshop'

The Workshop was a 10 day event that took place in March of 2014. Architecture Schools all atteneded the international event, the schools were from Milan, Munich, Paris and Waterford.  The envelope workshop was based on a typical estate house in ireland. Built in the celtic tiger, it represented a low point in irish architecture.

The project involved studying the increasing strong storms that have hit the east coast in recent years and figuing out how to combat them. The project was supposed to make the occupiers living conditions better for the harsh winters and hot summers.

Our group based our design on the growing of fuel from Miscanthus leaves. Buy growing them as a second facade, it ceates a buffer against the wind and horizontal rain while also reducing the rate of water flooding the area while also acting as solar shading in the summer.

Miscanthus was chosen because it is an efficiant fuel for heating a domestic house while it is also harvested at the correct period of the year to suit the project.

The project was a success. It was a great leaning experience and an excercise in good team work.
