The Good Shepherd
The design of this poster follows the “Real is Radical” creative trends. This is seen in the expression of my art style as well as the authentic moments and expressions captured in the drawings (Adobe Creative Trends 2023, 2023).
The drawings were kept simple and negative space was left to prevent the final posters from becoming too cluttered. The rays of light in the background provide depth in subtle details. Large text was intentionally used in a contrasting colour to stand out as a feature of the composition. The handwriting typeface of the subheading contrasts with the bold serif heading and body text typefaces. The text is a key feature of these posters to create a visually appealing final design and balance the composition.
The theme of the posters provokes radical change by taking inspiration from the 1960/70 movements, particularly the ‘Jesus Movement’. This revolution saw Christian revival as the church was revolutionised, shifting away from traditional religious practices, and more people began following Jesus (Russell et al., 2023).
Influenced by the Bible verse John 10:14-15, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep (New International Version Bible, 2016/1973, John 10:14-15)”, these posters aim to spark revival through the portrayal of Jesus as the Good Shepherd that we (the sheep) can come to. In the book of Luke, Jesus also relates Himself to a shepherd who leaves the 99 sheep to pursue the one that is lost (New International Version Bible, 2016/1973, Luke 15:4-7). This is captured in the poster.
That same radical change and revival from the ‘Jesus Movement’ can reshape society to flourish and see our generation return to Jesus as our ultimate source of peace and love.
