The Archies - Opening titles / Netflix

The client

Tiger Baby Films is an award-winning Indian film production company based in Mumbai. Their work includes films, musical-dramas like Gully Boy, and web series for Netflix (Eternally confused and eager for love) and Amazon Prime (Made in Heaven).
The studio is owned by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, both film directors.
A moment before The Archies premiered on Netflix, they contacted us.

In fact, our Client reached out to us when another animation studio
had already made the opening titles for The Archies.

But Zoya wasn't satisfied, she wanted something more dynamic and stylish.
Well... it's a musical, isn't it?

The challenge

The biggest challenge was to turn the client's vision into life and make almost 2 minutes
of retro collage animation in 3 weeks.

The implementation

The art directors worked together - we asked ourselves
‘how would we like to do it if we had all the time in the world?’.
Consequently, we had a whole bunch of great redesign and design ideas to choose from. Beauty collage was chosen over flat one, magic realism over digital realism.
Illustrations and animations were done simultaneously.
'Netflix glamour vintage style' is what we called it.

Based on footage from the series' photo shoots, we cut out each character's pose
for each scene - head turns, hand movements. A dynamic cut-out, lightness, energy,
and finesse were our goals.

The result

Let's hear from the client:

You have been Ace! Zoya is really happy with how you guys have turned around such beautiful art from nothing
with such a quick turnaround time.
