Modular Lighting Units

This lighting project is about making a modular, which is a set of standardized parts or independent units that can be used to construct a more complex structure, so I thought about each unit separately and how the module will look like when the units are connected together. As a fan of Islamic shapes, I started my module by drawing a simple basic Islamic shape, then I kept on dividing it into smaller pieces until I reached my two main units, then I made 8 of each unit out of paper and started playing with them. First, I took each 8 units of the same family separately and created some patterns out of them and then I continued with mixing both shapes together each time coming up with a new pattern.
While thinking about connecting the two main units and able to connect them in a variety of ways to make a big variety of patterns like in the previous pictures, I had to make many connections each to fit for a variety of patterns, and since the module would be attached to the wall, I also had to figure out a way to connect it to the wall, so what I did was that I made a holder that would be fixed to the wall and has a rounded edge where the units will be attached to with 2 different connections and another E-shaped connection to connect the units with each other in a sliding technique.

First, there is a connection that connects the pizza-shaped units to the center (holder’s edge).

Second, another one to connect either one of the pizza shaped units from its back to the holder or one of the triangle shaped units from its back to the holder and then other units could be added to this unit through the E-shaped connection.
