KELO MODERNITY RETREAT

Typology: Private housing
Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan
Built area: 1700 m2
Sector: Residential

In our architectural project, we present a unique house that blends tradition with innovation. The foundation of this project is the log of kelo—a rare and valuable polar pine known for its exceptional properties due to its natural aging and petrification process. This tree, reaching an age of 150 to 350 years, is renowned for its density and durability, making it an ideal construction material. Utilizing kelo not only highlights our sustainable approach to building but also contributes to forest health, as harvesting these dead trees reduces wildfire risk. In designing this house, we aimed to integrate elements of modernity and modernism into the classic log architecture. This is achieved through the application of contemporary architectural forms, carefully thought-out layout solutions, and the use of modern technologies, all of which harmonize with the natural beauty and texture of kelo wood. The design of the house focuses on creating a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing living space. Thanks to its unique combination of materials and styles, this house offers its inhabitants the opportunity to enjoy the coziness and warmth of natural wood while residing in a modern and stylish environment. This project serves as an example of how it is possible to combine respect for nature and traditions with the desire to live in a modern and comfortable home.
