2012 | EWB - Natural Dehumidifier

TEAM BRIEF

EWB works in partnership with developing communities, assisting them to gain access to the knowledge, resources and appropriate technologies they need to improve their livelihoods.

SCENARIO

The Mekong Delta climate is hot to very hot (30-40 degrees) all year round, with wet and dry  seasons typically lasting 6 months each. Households do not have access to air-conditioning  or fans, and must rely on winds and the household design to provide comfort. Develop a  green/cool house construction design for this hot climate in order to release heat and keep  the household cool.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES

Develop an economical and eco-friendly method to manage the humidity and temperature inside a household
Develop a sustainable and economical cooling system to lower the temperature in a household
Create a modification applicable to households that is simple, understandable and effective.

Construction Guide for Natural Dehumidifer:
The cured bamboo is cut into sections for holding the compoenents. In one half is bamboo charcoal and the other glass foam/ sand. The bamboo charcoal is highly porous and will absorb the water molecules in the humid air and the wet sand will absorb the heat from the surrounds. Both these will work in unison to reduce the temperature and humidity in a home of a person living in the Mekong Delta.
