Concept
"Quit" is a book exploring addiction and recovery, using both writing from academic journals and books and anonymous posts from internet support forums. Interactive features are used to create more contemplative and involved reading experience, allowing a deeper connection with the material.
Inspiration for this project came from the work of Dr Gabor Mate, who writes about addiction and mental health issues. His work frequently includes anonymized accounts from his patients, providing a human perspective that helps readers connect with the more impersonal academic writing.
This project intended to continue this approach by juxtaposing text from addiction research literature along with first-hand accounts of addiction and recovery from anonymous internet posters. The book makes no reference to the addictive substance or behaviour in question, allowing an exploration of common themes and experiences across different experiences of addiction.
