– This lettering piece was inspired by the song “Stand” of R.E.M.
A silly song, which makes me smile.
It is about finding the way and following our inner compass.
I picked a line from the lyrics, which sums it up.

With this lettering piece, I wanted to focus on Roman capitals and play with the letterforms, which otherwise seem too strict and formal.

As for the composition, the five circles refer to old celestial maps.

I drew the map by hand with black ink and wrote the text as pure calligraphy with flat pen. I wrote it down 32 times and picked the one, closest to the right solution.

Instead of vectorizing the whole piece at the end, I saved the file as high resolution bitmap, to keep the shaky hand drawing effect.
