Cartell Festa Major de Sabadell

Proposal for a poster/poster for the Sabadell Festival. This proposal shows the importance of the orchestra that opens and closes the festival each year, playing with instruments that replace or accompany the text. In addition, the sensation of sound and movement was generated with expressive typography, placed in perspective, thus giving depth to the scene. Finally, different dancing characters were illustrated that assimilate the community
and happiness that the holidays bring

Idea & Inspiration
This proposal shows the importance of the orchestra that opens and closes the festival each year, playing with instruments that replace or accompany the text. I wanted to give the sensation of sound and movement through different characteristics. I looked at past year winners to have some idea of the aesthetic. There where some with lots of illustration, other that give more importance to text, and some with photography. I preferred to work with illustration and lettering, as it can give me more liberty to develop my idea.

Color Palette
For the color palette; the blue represents the color of the city and the importance that they give to water, combined with the pastel green, it stands for the parks as main attraction. The grey tones break that earthy vibe, representing the concrete or urbanity. The complementing colors are used for contrast and to pop out certain elements, like the instruments.

Instruments Illustration
For the instruments I worked in 2 ways; replacement instruments, which used a darker blue to blend with the text; and companion instruments, with a complementary yellow, to stand out. I simplified these to simple forms and not to much detail, because overall the porter would have a lot to look at. To not oversaturate.

Character Creation
I added characters because I wanted to give it a familiar look, representing the community and families that attend to the event every year. The characters where designed using the Adobe Illustrator AI, and fixing some details afterwards, I wanted to try out the new feature and understand how it works, as the briefing specified it could be implemented. I can say that although it tried to match my previous style (in the instruments), the illustrations had some flaws. But, it was interesting to try it.

Poster Arrangement
I started by creating the background, the idea was to create something similar to an auditorium, but outside, combining the urban with the rural, like Sabadell is. After I started arranging the different letters and instruments that replace these. I used an isometric guide as a base to arrange these. Finally I added some details, the characters and the missing information. These gave the poster a chaotic look, but it is still interesting enough
to look at in detail (due to the many elements) and it represent the party, happiness and community, aspects highlighted from the briefing given.
