CODE | COUPEE DESIGN
The collection of Design Museum Ghent is unique, diverse and surprising. Within the Collection of the Gentenaar project, which unites and digitally unlocks the heritage of Design Museum Ghent, STAM, Industry Museum, House of Alijn and Archives Ghent, 2,380 objects from the collection of Design Museum Ghent have already been digitized. The digital archive is a trigger to stimulate cross-pollination between citizens, museums and heritage in a creative and participatory way. And artists!
For CODE (Coupee Design), Design Museum Gent invited Coupee Collage Collective, the platform for contemporary collage art in Belgium. 10 artists were selected who were allowed to delve into the digital archive, looking for the objects, stories and history behind the codes or object numbers that provide structure and order. They decoded the information into self-defined building blocks, in order to process them into new creations. These creations will be on display in the DING showcase during the summer months.
Together with 9 amazing artists: Bram Antheunis, Pieter Bauters, Brunhilde Borms, Johannes Elebaut, Wim Maes, Jo Michiels, Matthias Vico Persson, Jelle Van Den Heede and Eva Vermeiren, we dove into the digital collection of the Design Museum, picking objects that sparked our inspiration.
