I designed the cover issue of the December issue of the Phoenix New Times! My first editorial cover in the USA hit the stands December 2023, with a reach and circulation of 30 000 in print, and it went live online on the Phoenix New Times site.
I got to illustrate some of my favourite NBA basketball superstars, specifically the players with the most impact on the
street wear fashion scene.
The December main cover feature is all about “Fly Fashion”, a story about a book that chronicles the best of NBA fashion throughout the ages, from the inception of the league all the way up to today. Fly Fashion is a 224 page book written by Dr Mitchell S Jackson, English professor at the Arizona State University and Pulitzer Prize winner.
I had the incredible opportunity to contribute art for this feature and chat about some of my experiences with being involved in streetwear culture, Y2k fashion, Hip Hop and Basketball.
It’s been a huge joy seeing some of the older styles from the early 00s comeback, and seeing Gen Z retro the early days of streetwear and help propel the movement back into the forefront of contemporary street fashion.
