Sky Series...
This photo is from a visit to Paris. The Basilica of Sacre Coeur de Montmartre is in a beautiful old historic part of Paris and is high on hill overlooking the city. It's location and amazing architecture are truly one of the jewels of Paris. You feel the history all around you here and can't help but imagine what it has been like here over the centuries. In this series I have played with the sky to give a more commanding image and to add to the amazing architecture that draws you in.
The Church of Panagia Kapnikarea is one of the oldest churches in Athens. It is from the 11th century and has survived in the centre of Athens. In this photo I removed the modern buildings around it to take it back in time. This is also part of my sky church series where I am altering the existing sky around churches to give them an even greater presence.
This image is part of my collection where I wanted to play with and manipulate the sky. The way we see the sky and our interaction with it and our surroundings are taken for granted sometimes. I wanted to tweak those surroundings and add a little fun and in this image a little fantasy.
This image is of the rooftop of the beautiful city gate in Bordeaux. The Porte Cailhau has survived since 1495 and is a wonderful example of the old gothic and renaissance architecture. I love being able to capture images of these historic places and show them in a slightly different way. With the dramatic roof line and turrets, this beautiful old building was perfect for my sky series.
Montmartre is a beautiful old historic part of Paris. It has always a a rich artistic history and is one of the oldest parts of the city. As such, the architecture in the area is stunning with the Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur, the Church of Saint Peter, and the historic old streets. You definitely feel the history all around you in this part of the city. It is an amazing spot to capture some great images to share.
I like this view from behind the Erechtheion and overlooking the Parthenon. Being on the Acropolis transports you back in time.It is amazing to imagine all the people that have walked these paths and been in these magnificent structures over the centuries. It nice when you can take a moment, get away from the crowds and let that sink in. I wanted to do this in black and white and with the moody sky to add to the historic feel of such an important place.
This image is from a busy side street in central Paris. The manor house at the end of the street is just one of the countless architectural gems in Paris that you can discover just by walking from street to street. You are greeted with old world charm throughout the city, which makes it a pleasure to wander the streets and capture images of the city and the people out enjoying it.
This is the historic old street leading up to the Porte Cailhau, the city gate in Bordeaux. It is just a part of the beautiful old city centre. You really do feel the history all around you and can't help but imagine what times were like some many years ago. There is still a feel of the medieval times that comes through in this section of the city.
In the old town centre of Granada is the Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Surrounding the Cathedral are the beautiful old streets and architecture that has survived the centuries. This photo is the street which shows the amazing historic old architecture on the Royal Chapel part of the complex. You can just imagine the centuries that have past right here and all the people that have wandered these streets.

The Paroisse Saint-Pierre de Montmartre is a beautiful historic church on the Montmartre in Paris. It is the second oldest surviving church in Paris. I wanted to capture this image in black and white to add to my church sky series. This is one of those spots in Paris where you can feel the history get a sense of the "old' city. These churches have beautiful historic architecture and have a presence and feel all their own.
This is the cathedral of Malaga viewed from the back. It is a spectacular piece of architecture and very grand in scale. Affectionately called "La Manquita" or The One-Armed Lady it was technically never completed, with the top of one of the towers not being constructed due to a lack of money. This just adds to the buildings charm. From this angle you can see the grand scale and the various parts of construction over the years. I also wanted to add this piece to my Sky collection with the cathedral set against the moody clouds.
