The birdwatching hut ‘De Kiekkaaste’ is the only birdwatching hut in the Netherlands located outside the dykes. Since 1995, the hut, designed by architect Huub Oome, stands on the coastline and offers a far-reaching view out onto the mudflats. From the birdwatching hut, bird lovers have a beautiful view over the muddy fields of the Dollard, where you can often see hundreds of colourful sandpipers. Seals and harbour porpoises can also sometimes be seen on the salt marshes.
