Abstract
Contrary to Norman's assertion that doors should be inherently comprehensible without the need for explicit signage, our investigation reveals that the root cause of this predicament lies in the design of the door handles themselves. This project, therefore, aims to bridge this gap by meticulously examining the historical evolution of doors and scrutinizing the existing door handle designs, recognizing the persisting inadequacy in providing a universally intuitive solution.
Through an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses design thinking, ergonomics, and user psychology, its endeavor to develop a novel door handle that transcends the limitations of its predecessors. The objective is to create a door handle that not only aligns with the innate cognitive processes of users but also eliminates the need for additional signage. By drawing inspiration from award-winning door handle designs and assimilating insights from diverse fields, this project aspires to contribute to the evolution of door handle technology, providing a seamless and instinctive user experience.
