My goal for this project was to design a seat with sustainability in mind. Several aspects of the lifecycle were considered for this concept. The bench is made from FSC® Solid Wood while the cord is made from natural fibers. A square profile was prioritized to minimize waste through production.
The key element of this design is a red cord that creates enough tension to hold the structure together. It allows for an assembly without any tools, which also means the bench can be disassembled and reassembled multiple times easily to improve durability. Having the consumers assemble the bench themselves means it can be shipped flat and therefore lower the carbon footprint.
