OBJECTIVE
To understand an object from a different perspective through the use of mixed media and design elements. To take the usual and make it unusual.
PROCESS & SOLUTION
The project began with a walk around Savannah and attempting to look at objects in an unusual fashion. From observation and inspiration, I derived the concept of a door that’s not a door, because it doesn’t lead you anywhere. This flowed into the idea of creating a full size door and taking it to places a door doesn’t typically belong, such as the park, walkways, railways, cemeteries etc. I experimented with different angles, and positions of placing the door within the frame of the photograph as well as how to incorporate text to tell a story about the doors and their surroundings. Though I had experimented many times with the concept of creating a poster series, I ultimately envisioned a book that would play with the idea of turning a page to open a new door. Rather than having the book be image after image, I included text onto the spreads, as well as text only pages. The purpose of the text is to tell the reader a story about the different doors we can choose in life and how our lives change because of the ones we ultimately choose.
