Capturing the Golden Hour
By : Abi Millaire
If I had to choose between dawn or dusk? I’d always choose dusk as I’ll gladly sit outside and watch the sunset as a final goodbye to the day.
I’ve come to notice that Golden Hour lighting can be tricky. To properly see the light you might lose detail in other places instead. The real challenge was to find the right balance of both to achieve the results wanted.

I took these pictures on my way/in the field next to my house where the sun sets behind these big trees and the snow is untouched. You can see where the wind would have pulled it to create almost like these waves of snow which helps create this sort of depth.

Each picture shows the progress of the sun setting. Each slightly focusing on something different. Picture 1 even if it was nearing -18 feels warm with the sun being a little higher and casting light on the road a deep orange. Picture 2 the way the light filters through the branches creating these sun rays that resemble a cartoon sun and snow behind the tree that creates a lovely orange pink on top of the snow that looks blue within the shadows.. Lastly Picture 3 the clouds that help pull the light in the sky as the sun is setting and is starting to be hidden behind the trees.
