Sunset Just Before It Hit The Horizon
This image was taken at the Marina that I live near. The water had completely frozen which made a nice shimmer on the water. I tried using the tree and the tree branches to frame the setting sun. This way the sun is the complete attention in the photo. It was a bit difficult to take a photo of this as I could not see the meter in the camera and could not see if the image was properly exposed. How I managed to overcome this challenge was that I used live to where my eye was and looked at the meter that way. This way image was close to properly exposed and I was not being blinded by the sun as it was still pretty high. But the image turned out great!
The Sun Just On The Horizon
This image was a little easier to capture because the sun was lower than the previous picture. Something challenging for this is that I kneeled down to get some of the rocks in the foreground. This was hard because again I was hard to see the light meter. So, I did the same as the last picture and used the live to get a better view of the meter to get a better exposure.
Sun On The Horizon
This one was really fun to capture, I was playing around with different angles. This one I settled on where the foreground is in focused and the sunset is blurred. With sun setting it made a really nice outline of the branches in the foreground creating a shadow. As well, this creates good depth of field, and the branch leads the eye to sun in the background. The challenge I had for this was the same as the previous pictures, but I also had the problem of lining up the branch perfectly so it looks like the sun was on the branch. How I overcame this one was just trial and error until I was satisfied with the result I got.
Experience of Capturing the Golden Hour
I absolutely love photographing sunsets. So, having this assignment was a dream, although because it is in the winter time the sun is usually hard to come by but when it does it's absolutely gorgeous. For many of the images it was difficult so see the meter in order to get a good exposed image, but I managed to overcome this and ended up with amazing results. I would definitely do this again, but maybe when it isn't so cold and my fingers won't freeze to death. And if it's in the summer there will be boats which would make an amazing composition.
What I Learned About The Impact Of Light
What I learned about the impact of light in my photos is that lighting is everything. Having an image with good lighting is absolutely a must. Lighting can impact the shadows and highlights to create dimension as well, as create mood with an image. I also learned that you don't always need studio lighting, natural lighting is the best kind. Although, natural light is harder to control and angle, but it is always there whether is i sunny or cloudy. Natural light can still create amazing images. And I will definitely start using the natural light more to create contrast without a studio.
