Conspiracy theories, especially those tying into secret organizations and the occult, fit in well with the theme of this sketchbook. So when it came time to make the final image spread I pulled from a few different popular areas of the theory. Many believe the Illuminati has strong ties to freemasonry. The lower part of the image is dedicated to this as we see the level of 3rd degree masonry branch off into the Scottish and York Rites. The last step of both Rites are partially obscured by the great pyramid as they ascend into obscurity. Flanking either side of this stairwell are the symbols of the trilateral commission and inverted pentagram (modern satanism). Popular belief seems to circulate that these organisations which the symbols represent are puppets of the Illuminati. And of course, what illuminati piece would be complete without the eye.

Given the enigmatic information and rumor revolving around this popular and very active area of conspiracy, I neither refute or agree with anything that circulates online.

During my research for illuminati subject matter and symbols, I realized that there was very little consistency regarding details of this supposed organization. For instance, when I searched "motto" or "credo of the illuminati" every site I visited gave me something different. The details in which the Illuminati utilized their seemingly omnipotent power varied from site to site as well. In the end, I put my own Latin phrase above the pyramid that translates to "Fear leads to False". Being the rudimentary language that Latin is, it was the closest thing to what I really wanted to say, which was "fear leads to disinformation".
