An illustration created in 2020 for 25hours Hotel Dubai One Central. This large scale piece is displayed on a 21 x 9m lobby ceiling.
The lobby won an award at AHEAD MEA in 2022: 'Labelled by the judges as "fun, memorable and full of charm", the lobby is centred around the ‘Fountain of Tales’ library; a striking focal point adorned with over 5,000 books, artworks and trinkets inspired by the theme of nomad travellers. A palette of earthy, desert tones is accented by mosaic tiles and patterned fabrics reminiscent of the textile souk, whilst the double-height ceiling above is adorned with a playful night sky scene by artist Dominik Bulka'. The hotel also won in 'event spaces' & 'hotel of the year' categories.
Oh, the ceiling also flashed in "Dubai Bling" on Netflix... well.
Each character was hand-drawn, retouched in Photoshop and then converted into vector. After that the job was really putting all the elements together - making the whole composition "stick".
