Arthur Eric Rowton Gill (1882-1940) was an architect, calligraphist,
stonemason, engraver, author, essayist, graphic designer,
font developer, typographer, sculptor, illustrator, letterpress printer
and artist from London.

A man of quality. He influenced a lot of people after his time. His fonts embellish posters, timetables, name-
plates of locomotives of the London and North Eastern Railway Company LNER, but also logos like the
ones of the companies Philips, Stiebel Eltron, the sales channel QVC, Penguin Books and of course BBC. The DDR used Gill Sans for their road signs and and signposts. So the font became for many a british national icon.

On the other hand had Eric Gill a second Life. He was also well known for his sexual obsession. He wrote down all his perverted sexual experiences in his diary. He for example committed periodically incest with both of his sisters, abused his daughters, cheated on his wife and “experimented” with the family dog.
You can find this side of his personality in his more explicit drawings and diary extracts on the inside of the japanese binding of my publication.
