This is an excerpt from series called “Still, life”, a project inspired by memento mori/vanitas paintings of the 15-16th century Dutch masters. The theme of memento mori is “remember that you will die”, a message that excesses are earthly, not spiritual wealth. Paintings in this genre often have decedent animals draped in repose. Still, Life features live animals in still life backgrounds, constructing a contrasting message- memento vivere- or “remember that you are alive”.
