TROPICAL RAINFOREST

Presently, libraries do not just provide us with knowledge from literature but also proves itself as a multi-functional facilities. The library aspires to be a safe haven for students and learners alike. They provide a conducive environment with a plethora of spaces, and a variety of resources and tools to aid in one’s learning journey.
Concept
The concept is to embrace a tropical ambiance to make the library seem more vibrant and lively. The primary visual element will feature art murals in the form of various types of leaves. A bold and vivid colour palette will be used to embody the boundless creativity synonymous within design students.
As this is the design collection area, we want the students to feel excitement and creativity upon entering this space.

Explorations
Initially, we focused on using orange as the primary colour as it is the colour for NYP's School of Design & Media. However, too much orange could be overwhelming to the students and break their concentration so the colour palette was later revised to a variety of colours with teal and light purple as the primary colour instead.
There are also explorations with user interactions such as post-it walls, an idea box, brainstorming walls, prompt wheels, and a mood meter.

Illustrations
The walls I'm in-charge of are done with a light purple background with colourful wall murals.
User Interactions
Students can use the mood meter as a healthy and fun way to identify their mood—being aware of one's emotions will help the student manage their feelings better to avoid emotional instability. They can also use the prompt wheel to generate free art/design prompts for students to challenge their own creativity.
Way-finding
Signboards are hung onto the pillars visibly to indicate the design section and the health sciences section.

This also creates a stimulation for students and gives them a boost to get their creative juices flowing!
