VONK is the light art festival of the Utrecht region and this second edition will take place in Fort de Batterijen in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands, from October 12 to 23, 2023.

 

The festival will consist of a special and interactive light art route, interactive art installations, performance art, light projections and more. The theme of this year's edition is 'We, the Earth', where the Earth is seen as more than just your environment, but a system of which we as humans are also part of. The art route within VONK is constructed based on the four natural elements: earth, fire, water and air; or also matter, decisiveness, feeling and reason. The theme for the immersive theatre performance builds on this and is based on the four destructions of the earth predicted by the Hopi culture, in which the earth is ravaged four times by natural disasters until ultimately a state is reached in which humans, animals and nature work together in harmony. to live.

The artwork was developed from the four natural elements. In the line of interactive installations, we started from animated versions of this, which could be flexibly applied to various expressions. For example, an animated version of the artwork is shown on the website, and this is further developed in the teaser animation. The artwork was developed, among other things, through creative coding to match the visual language of interactive installations. Furthermore, the four destructions from Hopi mythology are used to further explore the natural theme. Combined with the expressive typography, it comes together in a mysterious, mythical and mystical artwork.
