They are sources of food, fodder, timber, fiber, medicine, oils, dyes, resins, biofuels, and bioplastics. They provide nearly half of the oxygen in the atmosphere, store carbon, and regulate the climate. They beautify the places where they grow. And there is evidence that shinrin-yoku ("forest bathing") improves physical and mental health. There is already a movement, called "green architecture" or "ecotecture", that strives to incorporate more plants into urban spaces.
