The monks gathered for their monthly ritual to summon Echo, the god of sound. Unknown to them, an acolyte had fallen astray, and with just a whisper from his lips- the ancient tuning forks were misdirected and pointed instead towards a growing tide of demons. The acolyte had been waiting some time in preparation for this moment- soon the temple would be torn to pieces and scattered throughout their world.

PROCESS
--------------------------

For class, we started with some color studies from our favorite artists to develop a nice palette.
My studies were from Scott Christiansen and Jean-Léon Gérôme.

Step 1
Defining composition and color themes. Setting up the stage for my major focal points.

Step 2

Adding my main focal and secondary (the figure) At this point I feel like there needs to be a compositional change at some point in the future to get more depth out of the piece.

Step 3
Refinement of current concept, adding some details.

Step 4
Major compositional change, adding a sky to get more depth out of my background mountains, and more general refinement.

Step 5
Concept development, adding in the monk and demon, and some small compositional changes such as the floating rocks. I eventually decided these were unneccesary to distinguish the focal and they added too much chaos, so in a later step I took them out.

Step 6
Final detailing and adjustments. Refining the lighting situation. Finish!
