He beat me like I was metal
With iron fists and a copper tongue
Molding abuse to apology and back

I made myself steel
He hammered on

(Like a blacksmith)

I knew he wanted to control
He saw that I shone like silver
And he told me I was precious
 Like a jewel
Like a diamond

I told him diamonds are only composed of carbon
And that I was made of so much more
That upset him
He burned me until I was fire

Little girl
Good girl
Baby girl

So many times, I wanted to melt

(Stupid girl)

The next time he brings his hands down
He will not hear metal crunching flesh
His ears will ring with a clang

He will slice himself on the edge of my tolerance
The blade of I've Had Enough
The swish of Please Don't Hurt Mom
The sword of No More, Dad

I will rip you open
I will show you the stone that sits in the centre of your chest
And you will choke on the fumes of the anger you lit

I am stronger for every blow
But I didn't need all this strength

You touch my mom again
And I will shred you with the ragged edges
Of a fury
Only steel beaten into sword can cut

You will taste metal
And I will clean off the blood from my surface

It's been a long battle
And I long to rest

(In a sheath dust settles on)
