Exquisite Corpse Collaboration

Kyoto University students visited Falmouth University.  They were asked to play the game 'Exquisite Corpse' - The game where each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence until finally the whole completed picture is revealed. In this case three of their students took it in turns to draw either the head, body or legs.  They had 5 minutes each and they weren't allowed to see each other’s sections until the end. They were also given a theme to follow such as 'old' or 'angry.'  About 17 Exquisite corpses were completed.  Later on in the year my tutor asked some of us Falmouth students to re-interpret the Kyoto students original Exquisite Corpses in any media we wanted.  The only requirement was that it would need to be scanned and printed into an A3 picture book to sit adjacent to the original drawing in a double page spread. There will only be two books printed, one for each University.

Each of the original drawings were very strange and random, so it was fun to re-interpret them in our own individual ways.  The theme my Kyoto students had to follow was 'old.' I couldn't quite work out what was going on with the middle section but I kind of re-imagined it as a fish tank full of body organs...  I thought their original head had great character so I just exaggerated it a bit and made it older.  The legs were just legs... So I just made them a look older again and a bit creepy!  I decided to use a splattery ink wash for the colour as I thought it suited the character and style of the drawing. I thought it would be interesting to see the character in action so I added a couple of quick character studies.

(N.B - I will scan their original when I have a copy to hand)
This is how my A3 sized page will look.  The Kyoto students orginal Exquisite Corpse drawing would feature on the opposite page working as a double page spread together.

Character in action. He has an unstable design so falling over is highly likely...
