Painting the Town: Tutuba Komuniti Stoa

Tutuba Komuniti Stoa

Tutuba is a small, idyllic, and very beautiful island off the coast of Espiritu Santo. The store is the first to be built on the island, and primarily caters to the local population with basic grocery items and construction materials.

The island has recently opened itself to tourism, promoting day trips and overnight stays in rustic guesthouses. This has been a motivating force for founding the store. In addition to the local market, they will supply the type of goods that tourists want, plus a provide a place for the local women to sell their superb handicrafts. A rainwater tank has also been installed for the collection of fresh-drinking water.

The project has been supported by a number of individuals and organisations both locally and internationally with the donation of some of the materials and building supplies.

I was asked to create signage for the store.

As is common in rural Vanuatu, customer access to the shop is through a window.
Local man, Maxwell, assisted me for the day.
