One poignant encounter was with a 60-year-old woman named Nomita Mondal. She and her husband had been nurturing Amaranth leaves for nearly two months when they noticed white spots appearing on the vibrant red leaves. Unveiling the Struggles of West Bengal’s Farmers: A Tale of Resilience and the Quest for Agricultural Knowledge
n the rural landscapes of West Bengal, India, I had the opportunity to interact with numerous farmers, and their stories left a lasting impact on me. As a bystander, and not a photographer, I might never have fully grasped the harsh realities they face daily. Witnessing the toil of these hardworking individuals from the early hours of 5 am till evening, as they put immense effort into cultivating crops and bringing them to the local market, revealed the true challenges of rural agriculture.
It became evident that despite their relentless dedication, financial struggles persisted. The crux of the issue lay in the farmers’ lack of clear understanding of agricultural science. This knowledge gap often led to unfortunate situations where their precious vegetable produce suffered.
One poignant encounter was with a 60-year-old woman named Nomita Mondal. She and her husband had been nurturing Amaranth leaves for nearly two months when they noticed white spots appearing on the vibrant red leaves. Seeking help, Nomita was advised to use a white powder, but this decision proved detrimental as it damaged the entire agriculture plantation.
When I inquired about the cause, Nomita, with tears in her eyes, confessed her lack of knowledge about the issue. All she knew was that someone had mentioned a “weatheproblem over heat.  This lack of awareness and understanding had a profound impact on her crop. Despite the setback, Nomita expressed her hope to gain proper knowledge in the future and improve her farming practices, aspiring for a happier and more prosperous life.
