Framework of Light

Final Presentation Boards
The Framework of Light is the design of a hotel completed as an undergraduate (third year) design studio project. This studio largely explored ideas of tectonic interior architecture as evidenced in the final design. The impetus for this project came from a poetic reading on natural light. The framework creates a journey through the hotel delivering the visitor from dark entrance spaces to spaces of light for recreational activities. Three public spaces were designed in detail; the entrance, lounge and restaurant. Due to the importance of natural light to this design project, each space was considered under daylight and artificial light. The design forms an
investigation into how the hotel intervention interacts with the existing building façade to manipulate and control lighting conditions. The user experiences this through the level of control afforded to them in their surroundings, the ability to manipulate and control how they use their environment.
