I Wish I Could Meet You Someday

Major extinction events aren’t a new occurrence for the planet. Deforestation, rampant poaching, farming, and pollution - there’s no doubt that human business activities have played a key role in the alarming rate of species extinction. And if trends continue, according to Science Daily, we could see another mass extinction event within a few centuries. As I was astonished to learn how human business activities are driving dozens of species toward extinction every day, I wondered if they could be addressed in a way that prompts reflection and raises awareness.

“I Wish I Could Meet You Someday” is a stationery design proposal that features four of the beautiful creatures we’ve lost recently thanks to humans. Unlike other stationery created for spreading a corporate brand identity, it communicates the visual identity of recent extinct species in an emotional way. Each of the four creatures is uniquely and individually illustrated on the information cards. However, on the business cards, they are represented with white outlines that are often associated with crime scene, death and murder. The logo design is inspired by the Chinese seal and the IUCN Red List, where EX refers to Extinct Species.
All these design elements are employed to deliver a message: many beautiful creatures that were once abundant on this planet are now extinct. While there’s no way we can meet them someday, there is still a way we can prevent the endangered ones from going extinct.
