Nebraska Association Gives Omaha Residents Platform

A nonprofit organization, the US Chess Federation (US Chess) is the governing body that establishes standards for the game and encourages more people to take up the sport through its many state chapters, including the Nebraska State Chess Association, an organization with the same mission. Chess players in the Omaha area have four opportunities to participate in the Nebraska State Chess Association.

The city is home to four clubs. Club Increase the Peace is led by Jerome Helm and meets on Monday afternoons at the Charles B. Washington Public Library. Club Spence is led by John Hartmann and meets on Wednesday evenings at West Hills Church. Club Camelot, led by Roger Anderson, holds its meetings early on Friday afternoons at the Camelot Community Center. Finally, Club Millard, directed by Doug Grande, meets on Sunday afternoons at the Millard Public Library.

The Nebraska State Chess Association, the US Chess’s official affiliate, offers visitors information about games, tournaments, and chess news in the state. More details on specific times and contact information for the above clubs can be found on the organization’s website at www.nebraskachess.com/.
