서울 중랑구에서는 2020년부터 거리 미관을 개선하기 위한 사업 중 하나로 '우리동네 미술관' 프로젝트를 진행하고 있습니다.
회화미술 기반의 작가보다는 디자인 기반의 일러스트레이터들을 주축으로 작가들 개인의 커리어와 활동 등을 따져 매년 새로운 에이전시와의 계약을 통해 새로운 작가들을 섭외하여 벽화작업을 진행하고 있습니다.
컴퓨터로 제작된 시안을 바탕으로 직접 벽에 페인트로 칠하며 진행되는 벽화들도 있으나 부조 형태로 작업되는 경우도 있고 금속판에 인쇄하여 부착되는 경우도 있는데 제 경우 Adobe Illustrator로 제작한 작품을 금속판에 인쇄하여 벽에 구조물을 덧대고 설치되었습니다.
작품 제목은 '중랑구의 모습들'이며 서울 중랑구의 대표적인 랜드마크들과 유서 깊은 역사와 관련된 것들을 그려냈습니다.
이 보행로는 전철이 다니는 철로 밑에 있으며 보행자를 비롯하여 자전거, 바이크들도 많이 다니는 길임에도 불구하고 도로 폭이 매우 좁습니다. 때문에 지나가며 가볍게 감상할 수 있도록 추상적인 표현보다는 쉽고 직관적인 일러스트레이션들로 구성하였습니다.
총 9개의 그림을 제작 기획부터 컨셉, 드로잉 완료까지 마치는 일정으로 2주 정도 밖에 주어지지 않아 굉장히 촉박하고 힘든 작업이었으며 다행히 주민분들과 중랑구 측에서 마음에 들어하시며 성공적으로 마무리하였습니다.

Jungnang-gu, Seoul, has been working on the 'Our Neighborhood Art Museum' project since 2020 as one of the projects to improve street aesthetics.
Design-based illustrators rather than painting art-based artists are the main focus of the mural work by recruiting new artists through contracts with new agencies every year.
Some murals are painted directly on the wall based on computer-made drafts, but some are worked in the form of relief or printed and attached to metal plates. I printed the works of Adobe Illustrator on a metal plate, put the structure on the wall and set it up.
The title of the work is "Scenery of Jungnang-gu" and it depicts representative landmarks and historical events in Jungnang-gu, Seoul.
This walkway is under the railroad track where the subway goes, and despite the fact that it is a road where many pedestrians, bicycles, and bikes go, the width of the road is very narrow. Therefore, it is composed of easy and intuitive illustrations rather than abstract expressions so that you can enjoy them lightly as you pass by.
It was a very tight and difficult task as a total of 9 paintings were given only about two weeks from production planning to concept and drawing completion, and fortunately, the residents and Jungnang-gu liked it and successfully finished it.

This project is being carried out to improve the street beauty in Jungnang-gu, so it is mainly targeting old houses, walls, and dark tunnel bridges, and there are murals and installations involving many famous artists throughout Jungnang-gu's streets.
