the best damn thing
Challenged to create an album cover that expresses the music from the listeners perspective instead of the artist, as well as draws inspiration from the designs by Hipgnosis, I chose to design a cover that reflected the era of riot grrl and the early 2000's pop punk scene.
'the best damn thing' by Avril Lavigne is a fun, bratty, confident, playful record with strong lyrics and upbeat rhythms. Anytime Avril Lavigne comes to mind, pink, punk, and skateboarding are some of the first things that come to mind. I knew I wanted to incorporate all those elements when creating this cover. Pulling imagery from the album cover and merging them with photography, I began the work of finding just the right mix of bright colors and punk aesthetic to match the vibes the album gives.
