This project was made for a four-days workshop on data visualization in relation to the idea of "quantified self": the focus was to collect data on ourselves for 24 hours, analyze and visualize them in a significant and attractive way.
We choose to work on the number of words that a students writes during a single day, confronting when he's studying for exams and during a standard day during the semester.
To visualize our dataset we decided to develop two separate works: one focuses on the raw number of characters written in the two situations and is built using Processing, the other one is meant to visualize the total number of different words and the number of recurrences of each word, and was made with NodeBox.
The result of the first one is a 70 x 125 cm poster:
Questo progetto è stato sviluppato nell'ambito di un workshop di data visualization sul concetto di "quantified self", della durata di quattro giorni: lo scopo era di raccogliere dati su sè stessi per 24 ore, per poi analizzarli e visualizzarli in modo attraente e significativo.
Abbiamo deciso di lavorare sul numero di parole che uno studente scrive in un singolo giorno, mettendo a confronto una giornata di studio e una giornata normale.
Per visualizzare questi dati abbiamo sviluppato due progetti separati: uno è centrato sul numero di caratteri scritti nelle due situazioni, ed è stato creato in Processing, l'altro visualizza il numero totale di parole differenti e il numero di ricorrenze di ciascuna parola, ed è stato creato con NodeBox.
Il risultato del primo è un poster in formato 70 x 125 cm:
The output for the second one are two posters, one visualizing the total amounts of words written, the other analyzing for which purpose those words were written: studying and notes, messages, email, social networks or web searches.
Il risultato del secondo sono due poster, uno che visualizza il numero totale di parole scritte, mentre l'altro analizza le ragioni per cui sono state scritte: studio e note, messaggi, email, social network o ricerche web.
