Behavioural Changes In Retail Grocery Buyers Due To COVID-19 Pandemic
Summary
A pandemic such as COVID-19 had a massive impact on the retail industry. The different sectors of this industry were greatly affected due to the sudden shift in the shopping behaviour of the consumers.
Grocery buyer’s behaviours and purchasing habits had changed and these have evolved further post the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grocery buyers were more vigilant, they were embracing newer ways to shop for their daily requirements. Digital payments had gained more traction for buying daily items.
Grocery purchases were focused on the most basic needs, buyers shopped more consciously, spending less and mostly for only essential items.
The factors that influence brand decisions also changed as local stores and local brands got more attention.
Shopping experience changed as consumers preferred shopping alone, the time to shop reduced and discretionary activities were avoided.
Moving forward when the lockdowns eased, we saw an increased use of digital platforms over traditional cash payments to buy groceries, as it is contact less and convenient.
