CSGO Map: fy_sunny

Note: some knowledge of the Valve Hammer Editor / Source Engine might be relevant.

fy_sunny is a CSGO map. It pits the CT and T teams against each other in an Arcade / Team Deathmatch setup. It is a simple base vs base, inspired by another Counter-Strike level known as Gallery.

Design intent: I wanted to create simple map, inspired by a successful layout. I originally intended for a Tetris-like theme, but the textures were far too obstructive to the core game loop. Thus, I opted for a boxy look, with each base looking as specific to each team's colors.

My contributions: layout, all geometry / brushes, radar

Development notes: The map took 20 hours of work. It had been several years since my last mapping project, and this was more of an exercise.
It is a small arena map on purpose. The layout is extensively based on another map, called Gallery.
The original plan was more ambitious, based on the Tetris visual theme. Inside the block that separates the two teams, I originally intended for scripted events to occur, like falling blocks. While this is possible in the Source Engine, it would have extended dev time for far too long than I had planned. By comparison, the current dev time for a map like this would sit between 2 to 8 hours. Trying out the original plan, it costed me 10+ hours of iterations. I settled for a minimalistic, boxy-looking theme.
