nhow Amsterdam Rai: ART FOR LOBBY'S FLOOR

nhow is an international hotel chain belonging to NH Hotel Group based on a disruptive concept in which each hotel is in itself a unique work of Art, with an architecture and interior design with the utmost attention to detail combined with an innovative design based on large-scale murals that give its spaces an atmosphere in which creativity and inspiration flow on every wall.

nhow Amsterdam Rai Hotel

nhow Amsterdam Rai is a 4-star hotel designed by renowned architect Reinier de Graaf, located next to the Rai Convention Centre in Amsterdam.

The concept that inspires the art and interior design of the hotel is "the mix of cultures of the world". Amsterdam, as one of the most multicultural cities in the world, serves as the perfect context to develop this concept in which apparently antagonistic cultures are mixed on a canvas of impossible compositions, captured through a surrealist and pop art prism.

This reinterpretation of cultural symbols from a transgressive and irreverent perspective is the basis of a colourful and innovative proposal that updates the identity iconography of the world's cultures to a vision adapted to the 21st century.

Art for Lobby’s floor
In this project, I have taken creativity to the floor, literally. I have created a floor design that can be visually divided into layers, each telling its own story and all together forming a cohesive and vibrant visual narrative.

The first, deepest layer depicts a surging sea, inspired by traditional Japanese painting style. This layer establishes a fluid and dynamic base on which the rest of the composition is built.

The second layer, located in the middle zone, is a tapestry of cultural elements. Here, the styles and symbols of Japanese, Mexican and African cultures intertwine and blend. A series of African dishes stand out and establish a visual link with those on another floor of the hotel, creating a thematic continuity.

The third and final layer brings an element of surprise and joy. Giant Japanese carps leap above the rest of the elements, bringing a sense of movement and depth to the design. These playful creatures appear to leap straight from the surface, inviting viewers to join in their dance.

These three layers come together to create a Pop Art composition that extends and enriches the narrative created for the hotel mural. The elements and figures complement and amplify the nuances of the cultural mix, creating a visual celebration of diversity and cultural interconnectedness.
