The Changing Face of Music

“The Changing Face of Music” is a zine documenting the transition of music that once was an intangible experience to a tangible product and its steady transition back again in recent years. More importantly, it shows how our - the consumer’s - habits have changed in time with it.

The zine combines these experiences (which are separated into two booklets) into one chronological account of the music industry. This project is influenced by the styling of fanzines - or zines from the eighties, which were generated by an individual to inform the wider public about certain issues or topics. The bit-mapping and stark photocopied images reflect the grungy D.I.Y production format of this style.
The first section deals with music as an experience - before it became a product.
The middle section tells of how the production of music as a physical product became a huge part of the music industry during the twentieth century (symbolised by the use of larger stock).
A pull out poster in the centre of the 'zine displays the highest selling records of all time.
The final section (second half of the smaller booklet) deals with the music industry post digital revolution.
