Description:
The project involves selecting a photographer that you are inspired by and researching their bodies of work to decode both their pictorial aesthetics and conceptual concerns. You will create a series of 10 to 12 images that will emulate the artist you have chosen to study. Furthermore, through your research, you will pick three images of your photographer to hide amongst your images. The artist I have chosen to emulate is Thomas Ruff, a Dusseldorf School of Photography member. He made a radical breakthrough in conceptual photography and experimented with different genres of photography. I was interested in this photographer because of his abstract body of work specifically his D.O.P.E series. The series was fractal patterns created with the specialized software program. I was interested in this series because of the depth and variety of colors within the composition. The depth of the subject matter emphasizes large areas that move the viewers’s eyes around the composition. The colors incorporated into the composition highlighted small areas of the subject, enhancing the depth. With this in mind, I took pictures of objects in nature that can repeated within a composition. I repeated the object to create different forms and spread them throughout the composition. I also layered the composition with color layers to highlight specific areas and create depth.
