With a massive following of 32,000+ people, Kelma Kelma is the Facebook page that has taken Malta by storm. From a simple collection of linguistic curiosities borne from Micheal Spagnol’s love of the Maltese language, it has developed to become an unconventional but highly effective teaching tool. Kelma Kelma’s 32,000+ followers are equivalent to roughly 15% of the 220,000-strong Maltese online population.
Its rapid growth shows the concept has hit a distinct nerve with people.

Kelma Kelma, however, has recognized that its audience on Facebook reacts well to Educational posts and meme and have used their fan page to catalyze the spread of posts that certainly have the potential for virality. Likes on the page began trickling in slowly, but after just one week, traffic began pouring in. The massive snowball effect that followed was unprecedented. The response was astounding.

Visual Posts are among the most commonly shared types of content online, which is why many facebook Pages strive to create original posts that will go "viral" (be shared an exponentially growing number of people).

It's not much, but Kelma Kelma clearly knows its demographic, and the way Facebook works. By distributing the posts on their fan page, they've given users the chance to spread the Kelma Kelma Comunity to their friends without resorting to paid ad placements, which is exactly what thousands of people have done by "liking" the posts, an action which is then repeated in the newsfeeds of their friends and can potentially attract new people to Kelma Kelma fan page.

More importantly, though, the content is varied, fun, and interesting. The updates share videos,  posts about all aspects of Maltese language — including old worlds, articles about new words being introduced. The tone of each update is informative and casual, As a result, the quality status update content has led to a very engaged fan base, with every update receiving hundreds of like/comments.

The Kelma Kelma Facebook fan page is a great example of how a community can still engage fans without the use of flashy apps, and instead simply focusing on quality designed content.

The Page's aim is to have fun with language, to bring Maltese to the present day, to promote its use, to make it appreciated and admired for the wonderful versatility it holds.
